Pillow & Chair~ The Chapter of Chair

椅子，是種機能性的傢俱，
而且其實咱們人類對於椅子的需求是很高也很多樣化的。
所以你會在展覽場和商店裡看到~
各種不同材質不同造型不同設計不同功能的椅子...

其實一進到我宿舍房間之後...
哇...除了那無敵大的衣櫃之外，這房間面積也真夠"剛好"

床的問題...其實出門在外不用想太多，既然已經能把最重要的枕頭搞定了
其它問題都還是次要的

倒是那把椅子...
說它不好坐也不是
只是椅腳故意設計成後短前長...而且前後接起來其實看來很像搖椅
然後可以讓你後仰到一個角度而仍安全地不會翻倒
那高度和整體感其實會舒服地讓你覺得不適合坐在它上頭工作
而且，let's say 舒服之餘，但是那種不安全感仍是揮之不去的，

So...椅子便是我下一個改造和血拼的目標了
而且目標就要找一張舒服又好坐的電腦椅

儘管在網路上找了很多販賣辦公室用品的網站
再多的圖片都還是比不上現場實地試坐...
於是乎找好downtown的office depot的方位之後
就這麼一路殺去..
後來還給我在展示區裡看到一張原價80元，
但可rebate 40元的executive chair，
看看其它爛爛的普通task chair 也要30到50元
當然二話不說就把這張高背的"主管"椅給刷回家去了

不過呢，我可沒就這樣扛回去而是shipping for free ^_^
而且組裝過程一點也不困難
當那椅子放好在桌前給我一屁股坐下去時
嘿嘿...
還真亂有質感的
當場房間又變得舒適許多

至於原來的呢
目前則是等待那個叫做"電視機"的大爺來我房間時可以坐呢 :p


倒是另外還有一點和椅子沒關係的
我沒想到其實從CTA藍線grand站出來的街景....還挺荒涼的
反正天色未暗，倒也就不用太害怕，就給他用力往東方的downtown走過去
那種華燈在前而頹敝在身邊的強烈對比感
也讓我對這兒又多了另一種體會和認識

Unbelievable~ I got stood up

Gurnee Mills, one of the famous outlet in Chicago, is the must-go shopping mall for a poor international student who loves shopping all kinds of fancy stuffs. When I arrived UIC and reported to the Office of Internationl Services, Those "friendly" staffs just informed me that there will be a shopping tour to the Gurne Mills which organized by the OIS, and it only costs you $8. So I signed up without any hesitation, and kept on waiting till last Sunday.

However, after an hour impatient waiting in front of the Students' Service Building, the whole crew,including the staff member of the OIS, found out that we got stood up by the bus services.
DAMN!!! How could they stood us up??!! Didn't the OIS confirm the trip with the bus services?

Anyway a boring irritating day.......

Pillow & Chair~ The Chapter of Pillow

枕頭和椅子對我這個筋骨不健康的人來說是很重要的二件物品。
尤其是枕頭...

這兒台灣同學會的會長在我出發前問我有沒有需要買什麼的時候，
我第一句批頭就問這兒那裡買得到乳膠枕頭 ，>_<
當然..這麼不尋常的問題..也就給人非常深刻的印象。:p
這裡好歹是美國的芝加哥，全美第三大都市，還有個最繁忙的O'HARE 機場，
我不是擔心買不到^_^

而是在沒車可週遊各地貨比三家的情況下，要從有限選擇中做消費決策，
通常不太會有令人滿意的結果...

同時儘管我豪氣地說「無上限」，
但仍怕所相中的貨色的價錢會超出預算太多...

另外就是啊...對我來說...睡眠品質實在太重要了，
可預見的是睡眠時間一定不會太多的情況下，如果沒有一個好的枕頭，
又如何能在有限時間內獲得稍微有品質而勉強足夠生存下去的睡眠呢??

總而言之..言而總之..
抵達當天下午去BED, BATH & BEYOND店裡逛枕頭的時候...確實是又貴且也不滿意其品質呀 !!
後來終於撐到台灣同學會辦的WALMART TOUR時..
在那裡給我翻到一個席夢思的乳膠枕..算算含稅才20元美金加些零頭...
嗯..21元有找的意思就是說比我在台北costo買到的美國貨還要便宜不少!!
當然二話不說囉雄雄抱回家^_^

接下來這星期以來的睡眠品質就好很多啦....
起碼熟睡的時間會比意識到自己在亂做夢的時間要多:p

真是好個不可或缺呢

美國是個最不環保的所在

來到Chicago快二個星期了，
因為不斷地購置生活所需的各項物資，
伴隨而來地就是用不完的塑膠袋
雖然說都是可分解的材質
真是太可怕了...不只袋子用得多
易碎品還會再多捲好幾張紙...就算是再生紙也罷

好處是我可以有好長一段時間不用特別買垃圾袋了
起碼現在手上還有三十個吧..>_<

UIC-SOC 又一個瞧不起spss的地方

好吧...
我早知道sas比較厲害...
但是總覺得spss也不是那麼毫無用處
還好我出發前十分鐘有把sas 的光碟放進行囊裡
不然哦...在這裡什麼都得買咧..><

嗯...又要開始掉進另一個統計地獄裡了

The Crown Fountain in the Millennium Park

The Crown Fountain, designed by Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa, features two 50-foot high glass block towers at each end of a shallow reflecting pool. The towers are activated with changing video images and lights, and water cascades from the top of each.

Inspired by the people of Chicago whose faces appear on the glass towers' changing video images, this site-specific work creates both a unique meeting point and a dynamic space for silent reflection. The glass block will spit on the pool every 30 minutes. ^_^

Lake Michigan

"Cloud Gate" sculpture on SBC Plaza in Millennium Park

A major feature of Millennium Park is the 110-ton elliptical sculpture designed by the celebrated British artist Anish Kapoor, one of the most prolific and respected sculptors in the world. "Cloud Gate," the monumental sculpture located on SBC Plaza was named by the artist on June 29 when the final panel of the ellptical sculpture was installed.

The sculpture is forged of a seamless series of highly-polished stainless steel "plates" that create an elliptically-arched, highly reflective work with Chicago¡¦s skyline and Millennium Park itself as a dramatic backdrop. Visitors will be able to fully experience the majestic nature of the work by literally walking through and around, as it was designed for public interaction. Inspired by liquid mercury, the sculpture is among the largest in the world, measuring 66-feet long by 33-feet high.

8月20日見到所有的同學了....
很有趣的一群人
平均年齡稍大....還不錯
不知道16個人到後來會剩幾個呢?

我有榮幸和一個帥帥的同性戀同一間office^^
到時候他一定會把它搞的很漂亮

8月18日考的speaking test....通過了 :p
雄雄50分....真不賴呢..
當場走路有風了


我的TA老板是個帥帥希臘裔的哥倫比亞大學的博士生
應該不難相處 ^_^ 希望啦

找一個所在

來到了異鄉
開始了嶄新的生活
也就順便來個blog吧
記錄起這兒的點點滴滴也是不錯的一件事
